"Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity."
– Hippocrates
Hello, I’m Seung-Wan Choi (she/her)
I’m a second generation Korean-American from LA. I’m an Associate Marriage and Family therapist at Echo Park Creative Psychology working with individual adults and couples in California.
Let's be real, therapy is hard! It takes guts to want to look inward and it gets easier having someone with you on the journey. I try to make therapy approachable and collaborative, especially for first timers. I make space for healing and vulnerability and also believe there is room for human-ness and playfulness. This might look like me bringing up memes, pop-culture and analogies into our session to explain complex topics.
My areas of focus include working with anxiety, depression, PMDD, major life changes (moving, career shifts) and relationships. My clinical work also includes working with people in the entertainment industry, helping professions and people who have never been to therapy.
My approach is queer affirming, trauma informed, social justice oriented with a focus on cultural humility. I often bring in socioeconomic, racial, cultural and systemic issues and their effects on clients. I work with a wide range of people. One of my areas of focus are working with people of color, those who are part of cultural and ethnic diasporas, and those who have experiences with immigration. I help clients explore intergenerational experiences and cultural beliefs, and how they affect clients’ relationships, life and their present.
